Custom Systems
Custom manufacturing equipment has been AST's focus since our beginning in 1965. For AST, "Custom" means developing equipment or systems where off the shelf options do not exist. Over the years we have found these projects are most successful when we work together with our customers to solve a particular automation problem. When we are able to blend our customer's product and process expertise with our machine design capabilities the results are often spectacular. From bowl feeders and hard tooling to robot cells to fully automated assembly lines we can automate nearly any manufacturing process.
Robotics
Over the years we have noticed that our customers often need to perform repetitive, intricate and sometimes dangerous tasks that are not ideally suited for humans. AST has invested in the training and software necessary to add robotics integration to our technical capabilities.
Though we work with several major manufacturers, The Automation Group has selected Fanuc Robotics and Staubli Robotics as strategic partners due to their industry leading technology, broad product line and customer support. As an Authorized Fanuc Robotics Integrator and Staubli Elite Partner, AST has been able to tap into the training and technical expertise necessary for success.
Machine Vision
AST has been incorporating vision systems from various manufacturers into our equipment for years, but as hardware prices fall, robot guidance and automated inspection applications are becoming increasingly cost effective. In order to take advantage of this, the Automation Group has recently selected Cognex Corp. as a strategic partner. As a Certified (Vision) Systems Integrator, AST has increased access to Cognex's industry leading training, technology and support.
Confidentiality
Many of AST's projects are proprietary in nature. We understand the importance of the competitive advantage that can be achieved with custom automated equipment. AST is careful to respect each customer's need for confidentiality. We maintain an access controlled "skunk works" area for sensitive projects as well as controlled servers to protect our customers' most sensitive intellectual property. In addition to specific training, key employees undergo background checks and all employees sign non-disclosure agreements before coming on board.
